Festive playdough

Candy Cane Playdough turned into festive playdough fun in my kitchen!

So, the kids are in bed and I finally get around to exploring some playdough recipes to share with my mummy friends and their children. I have been ready to explore some ideas and came across a recipe for candy cane playdough online at The Artful Parent ( http://artfulparent.com/2010/12/candy-cane-playdough.html )

Below is the recipe as it appears on the website. I found that the mixture made an awful lot, so I split it and played around with colours to create green peppermint dough and some pink peppermint too!! It smells lovely though!

You will need:

  • 5 cups water
  • 5 cups flour
  • 2 1/2 cups salt
  • 3 Tablespoons cream of tartar
  • 10 Tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Red food coloring
  • Glitter
  • Peppermint essential oil

INSTRUCTIONS

Mix water, salt, cream of tartar, and food coloring. Cook on medium-low heat, stirring regularly until mixture is hot. Add oil. Stir in flour a cup at a time, stirring in between each addition. Mix until playdough pulls away from pan and is no longer sticky (pinch it between your fingers to test). Dump dough on counter, let cool a bit, then knead.
I enjoyed creating the candy cane twist, but its just as fun on its own as one colour! Great fun!
