Headteacher recognises how old games are getting forgotten

A couple of weekends ago, my daughter got her first taste of conkers! I must admit, she was a little heavy handed at it, but under the instruction of her Daddy, she really enjoyed giving it a go! A few days ago, it was reported that a headteacher in Cambridgeshire looking at conkers that had fallen from a tree and were wondering what could be done with them!

He took an assembly at his Primary school and found that not one of his 416 pupils had a clue what the game of conkers was all about. But did he stop there? No! He took action, asking all the parents whether they objected to the children playing the classic game, explaining that the children would be taught to play safely.

There should be more people out there willing to realise that health and safety issues should not always stop children exploring games which allow them to enjoy themselves and challenge their ideas a little! Our parents (and a few of us too!) were brought up with such simple games. Games which are free to play and create and can be as challenging as a computer game, but also gets them outside and finding their King conker!!

What do you think???
