Try out this!!! Virtual playdates!!

Try out this great idea from a friend of mine!

It can be quite tricky staying in touch with friends who live far away. I have a very good friend who I went to school with. We lost touch after school, but got back in contact with one another through the power of social media! We also have two beautiful girls around the same age, so as a result, we have become closer than ever!

The only problem is, she lives a while away from me and where I do not drive, we are not always able to meet up as much as we would like. Our girls have become good friends and know of one another though, and love seeing pictures of one another! This wonderful bond has helped me over the summer holidays as my friend came up with the idea of a long distance playdate!

She sent me the instructions for 3 activities in the post, a butterfly puppet to decorate, a recipe for some great biscuits and an outdoor activity! We then had to carry out the activity on the same day at around the same time and post the pictures on Facebook! I must say, we had great fun on our first one today! The cooking was great fun, making "Muddy puddles" (recipe below!) and our little ones both loved making the butterflies!

The best part was seeing our girls have fun and showing them both how the other one had decorated their butterfly. It also means that when they do meet up next (funnily enough its only a few days away!) they have something to talk about! I also have the next virtual playdate activity ready as it is my turn to do the planning!!

Here is the recipe we used for our "Muddy Puddles"

You will need :

250g unsalted butter
100g caster sugar
200g Light brown sugar
400g Plain flour
50g Cocoa powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
100g Milk chocolate chips

Melt the butter and then mix all the ingredients together in a bowl. Make small balls out of the mixture and place them on a tray. Squash the balls to make 1-2 cm thick circles.

Place in the oven for 20 mins at 170 degrees.

Leave to cool before lifting so they harden

Yummy!! Many thanks to my friend and her lovely little one for our virtual playdate! Give it a go with a friend of yours!!

  1. Not sure the outdoor activity went quite so well this end. Ellie only identified 3 things outside that started with the 's' sound...
    1. Sand
    2. Sun
    3. Sunflowers
I think these sum up a perfect Summer's Day though! :0)
