Day 17 and 18 : Family and A Street #31daysinjuly

Sometimes the people living on your doorstep can become a family of sorts

I have combined the photos for the last two days for this post. Before we moved we had spoken to our old neighbours in passing, but now we are in a new area we have found the people a lot more talkative and welcoming........

Having a young child often helps to break the ice. Since we have moved, our daughter has charmed the neighbours near us and we have created a great rapport with them. Getting children involved in the community is a great thing to do and something that is not happening so often these days. It does help to have good relationships with your neighbours! We hear so many stories about nasty neighbours and neighbours from hell, but it doesn't always have to be this way. If you are lucky enough to live an area where most people get on, it really does make for a lovely place to live.

It is lovely that my daughter hears people saying "Good Morning" to one another and makes us feel as a family that we are part of something. We have been to a street BBQ (hence the photo above) and that really helped us get to know some of the people we live next to. These people will be a part of my daughters life as we have no intention of moving on now we are here!

Of course, I am not saying that children should talk to neighbours whom they do not know very well without a parent, but if anything was to happen emergency wise, it is good to know that she would be aware of some of her neighbours and not be too upset if she had to be left with them for a while for any reason. I count ourselves very lucky that we have such a lovely community to live in with our daughter, and that they have received our family so well!!
