Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus!!

Celebrate St Davids Day by creating a simple daffodil picture with your child!

I decided today would be a great day to look at the first signs of spring with my daughter. With it being St Davids Day, what better place to start then with a beautiful daffodil! We have been watching some grow in our front garden, and as my daughter has no idea what daffodils looked like, I have been asking her to guess what colour the flower would be!

As the flowers are now starting to bud, she has seen that they arent Pink or Black as she suggested, but a lovely yellow colour! I remembered that as a child at school, we were often asked to paint daffodils from still life, and I quite often took some into one of the nurseries I worked in for the children to look at and paint. Then a thought occured to me........what if every year from now on, I get my daughter to paint a daffodil to go in her scrapbook. Then, every year we can look back and see how she develops with her painting and the added destails that go in!!

The top painting on the page was done with my help, showing her how to paint the stem and then the flower, therefore teaching her new words too! The one below is her own attempt, without any help. She talked about painting a "line" when creating the stem of the flower. It was fantastic to hear her talking through what she was doing with the picture too.

So why not give it a try........a simple daffodil picture. You could also do it every year, see what happens!! Watch this space for 2014's daffodil!!
