Parenting fun is so different

Seeing a status on a social networking site really got me thinking!!

Just browsing on the Internet today, I saw a status update from one of my friends which really made me think. It said :

"There comes a point in life when fun no longer means clubbing, drinking or being out 'till 4am, or thinking about yourself first! Fun means Disney movies, family dinners, bedtime stories, long cuddles, a messy house, sleeping by 10pm and hearing little voices say "I love you." Becoming a parent doesn't change you, it makes you realize that the little people that YOU created deserve the very best of your time"I realised just how true this is and how sometimes, in today's society some parents don't quite remember how important family time is. I realised recently that our family day once every week seems to have slowly petered out due to everything else going on in our daily lives. This is such as shame as we always used to look forward to spending the day as a family and really bonding.
Some people would argue that some parents these days still think about themselves first and continue to spend their lives clubbing and drinking etc. Luckily, I do not know any parents out there, but there may be some that do exist and this could be why we are ending up with so many troubled teens on our streets.

I believe that quality family time and having the fun that is described in the quote above allows children to not only feel part of something special, but also have some respect for their parents. If my husband and I didn't do our utmost to play with our daughter and spend a little time with her as much as we could, she could possibly grow up feeling less respect for us and not feel that she matters. This of course, is purely my own point of view. I would love to hear what you think too!

Many thanks to Michelle for giving me inspiration for today's post.
