Men in childcare

They are often frowned upon in a hugely feminine profession, but male nursery nurses are just as good, and sometimes better than their female counterparts!!
I have worked with at least 3 male nursery nurses within my childcare background, and two of them were really inspiring and made a great impact on the children in their care. It is quite a taboo subject for many parents, especially when there are so many stories out there about nursery nurses abusing children in their care, and that's just the women.

It is very tough for the men trying to get in to childcare, but there are some who are very passionate about working with children. In our local newspaper today, a group of 6 men are at collage on the same child care course, the most the collage have ever seen in one class. And good on them! I have seen the impact a male child carer can have on the children around them. The boys definitely enjoy having male role models and someone willing to have a good kick about with in the garden!! But even the girls I have seen have been inspired by the male nursery nurses!!

Many parents do worry about having men looking after their children, with some parents going as far as signing forms saying they are not happy for them to help their child in the toilets or even change their nappies. It is such a hard thing to have to decide, you have to put a lot of trust in the setting your child is going to and the CRB checks. Even with CRB checks, nursery nurses are being found guilty of harming children in their care. But, the way I see it, if woman are being caught doing these unthinkable acts, than why do we still trust the female nursery nurses more than the male ones?

Well done to all those male child care professionals out there. There are not enough of you and there should be!!
